Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps people to identify unhelpful or maladaptive thinking patterns and emotional responses and teaches new ways of thinking and coping with stressors.

CBT focuses on changing the automatic negative thoughts that people have that usually worsen existing issues such as depression and anxiety.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a modified type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that focuses on engaging in 2 therapeutic opposites- change and acceptance.  DBT clinicians teach specific skills  to help clients accept reality and change negative behaviors.  Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

EMDR is a type of trauma focused therapy connected to CBT that was developed to help reduce the power of traumatic memories.  The therapist uses specific techniques to help the client engage in bilateral stimulation (ie: eye movement, tapping or sounds), to facilitate their working through traumatic memories and the negative cognitions associated with them. Online EMDR therapy is one of our specialties.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is learning how to create nonjudgmental awareness by paying attention to the present moment with a perspective that is nonreactive. The idea is that we become more attuned to ourselves, and in turn can become more attuned to others, helping us to become more balanced and regulated. We help mindful therapy clients develop their mindfulness skills by working on accepting what is happening in the moment, reframing the meaning of suffering and using concrete techniques such as breathing exercises.

Hypnotherapy

Dr. Milton Erickson, the founder of contemporary hypnotherapy, defined hypnosis simply as “communication,” and as “concentrating exclusively on your own thoughts, values, memories and beliefs about life.”  Hypnosis helps to shift attention from external to internal reality, and the highly focused attention is then directed to one experience at a time. Hypnosis is not a type of therapy, but a technique that can be used to enhance therapy. It has been used to treat pain, depression, anxiety, stress, habit control, posttraumatic stress disorder and many other psychological and medical problems.

We integrate hypnotherapy services into DBT, CBT, and mindfulness into our work to address many different issues such as phobias, trauma reactions, sleep issues, pain management, and many other issues.
